Hi! I’m Richy. I’ve created this website to aggregate all the useful information about ways to save and spend less money in Australia. These tips are all useful to the average Australian and I hope to help as many people as possible by sharing all the tips I’ve found over the years. Links to the resources can be found in the sidebar or carry on reading this page for a bit more about me and the website.
I’m relatively young person who just started full time work and adulting a few years ago and found myself fascinated and inspired by the topic of financial independence, not just in terms of money and material goods, but also the positive societal affects that would be brought when people as a whole are no longer burdened with doing something they hate just in order to survive and not starve.
To me, financial independence is the concept of being in a position in life where you’re no longer restricted by your finances and your life no longer revolves around having to work in order to survive. It’s not about not working; but rather about having the option to be able to do whatever you want to lead a more fulfilling life. I believe that when people can work on something that they’re passionate about rather than grind a 9-5 job that they hate, then society as a whole will become more productive and happier. The goal of this website is to aggregate as much useful information as I can and to inform as many people as I can to help them get themselves and therefore society as a whole, to a better place in life.
Over the past few years, I’ve been accumulating various methods for saving money and getting the most out of every single cent. I believe that every single cent counts and the earlier you start compounding, the earlier you’ll reach the position in life where you’ll be able to pursue what you want to without worrying about your financial situation.
Here’s a list of some sources and communities that I find useful, I think that Reddit communities they are especially good as they are not a centralised source, but rather operate as a community where everyone can collectively add input:
- r/personalfinance – Subreddit discussing personal finance (US Oriented)
- r/AusFinance – Similar to above but Australian orientated. Their main page is also full of useful information. Be wary however as the sub moderators have their own agenda about widening wealth inequality and are unwilling to help the average Australian. They will go against the interests of the majority of their community and suppress information counter to their agenda which is an utter shame for the community and what it should stand for.
- r/financialindependence – Subreddit discussing financial independence (US Oriented)
- r/fiaustralia – Similar to above but Australian orientated
I’ve tried to keep all of the pages on this website as concise and content dense as possible so you have immediate access to the information you want, without the fluff that usually comes with writing. So whenever you’re ready, you can have a look at the topics under Pages in the sidebar of this page.
I welcome and encourage discussion of the topics and you are free to leave constructive comments under the relevant pages however I will be personally moderating the comments and will delete irrelevant and/or abusive comments at my discretion.
I also have blog section where I will post deals that I think a lot of people may be interested in. You can subscribe to be notified of new blog posts here.
Personally, I believe that everyone should have easy access to this type of information so they can eventually go after their true life goals without any hindrance by their financial situation. For this reason, I currently have no intentions to monetise this website (e.g. charge a subscription fee or place ads) however if you feel like supporting me and my efforts, then feel free to have a look at the Referrals and Donations page where you can find more details.
Also if you would like to sign up for any of the companies I have mentioned on the website, don’t forget to sign up with a referral code as many of them will give you additional bonuses. Mine can be found on the Referrals and Donations if you wish to use them.
